Our MSI team recognized that we needed to communicate STEM connections cross-curricular and that this could be done in a creative way with large bulletin board. We created a “STEM In” bulletin board and changed the course each month. We highlighted connections, careers in that field, and individuals from underrepresented groups in sciences that have contributed in their respective field. We then had the course area (Ex: Language & Literature) offer stamps if students could answer a couple of questions about the board. The board drew student interest and it also gained appreciation from the highlighted subject area.
We learned that this is a lot of work, and if we want this to be sustainable and create a greater student buy-in that we would have to modify the way we had been completing the process. We decided that we were going to create a student club to create and change the bulletin boards in the future.
